 Definition

A Hortatory Exposition Text is a type of argumentative text that aims to persuade readers to take a particular action or adopt a certain point of view. It not only presents arguments but also ends with a clear recommendation, encouraging the audience to do or avoid something.

Purpose

• To convince readers that something should or should not happen
• To present logical and structured arguments
• To influence readers’ attitudes or behavior

Generic Structure

• Thesis                      : Introduces the issue and clearly states the writer’s position.
• Arguments               : Presents logical reasons supported by facts, examples, or evidence.
• Recommendation    : Provides a strong suggestion or call to action.

Language Features

• Use of Simple Present Tense
• Use of modal verbs: should, must, ought to
